Quick answer

What is food traceability software?

Food traceability software links every raw-material lot to the batches it goes into and every batch to the customers who receive it. Formezy builds that chain automatically as material is received, tested, issued, produced, packed and dispatched, so a trace backward or forward is a search rather than a hunt through registers, and a mock recall takes minutes instead of a day.

One step back, one step forward is not enough

Most food plants can say which supplier sent a lot and which customer received a batch. The hard part is everything in between: which batches used the lot, how much went into each, what was blended, reworked or repacked, and where every pack went.

When that middle part lives in production registers and handwritten notes, a trace takes hours and is never quite complete. Formezy records it as the work happens, so the full chain is always there.

How the chain is built

Traceability is not a separate task in Formezy; it is a by-product of normal work.

  • At receipt, every lot gets a number with its supplier, quantity, certificates and test results
  • At issue, lots are booked against the batch or process order that uses them
  • In production, batches record their inputs, outputs, sub-lots and rework
  • At packing, the batch code and date are printed from the batch record
  • At dispatch, batch numbers go on every invoice and packing list

Mock recalls in minutes

A mock recall tests whether you could find every affected pack in time. In Formezy, you open a lot or batch and see the chain backward to its ingredients and packaging, and forward to every customer, invoice and quantity.

Quantities reconcile automatically: produced, in stock, dispatched and lost. Record the exercise, its timing and any gaps, and repeat it on a regular schedule so the team stays practised.

When a real problem arrives

If a supplier warns you about a lot, or a customer complains about a batch, the first job is to stop suspect stock moving. Formezy lets quality put a lot, a batch or everything made from a lot on hold, so it cannot be picked for dispatch.

The same trace shows which customers received affected stock, with their contact details and quantities, so the response starts from facts.

Spice lots as an example

In a spice plant, a crop lot is cleaned and graded into sub-lots, ground into powder batches and blended into masalas. Each step keeps the link to the parent lot and its moisture, aflatoxin or residue results. A complaint about a pack of chilli powder traces back through the grinding batch to the crop lot and its certificates, and forward to every other pack made from the same lot. The ground spices flow on the spice ERP page shows each step.

Questions

Food traceability: common questions

Still have a question?

Talk to a food ERP specialist about your own plant and process route.

How fast can Formezy trace a batch?

Because lots, batches and dispatches are linked as the work happens, a trace backward or forward is a single search in the system. The time it takes depends on how completely issues, packing and dispatches are recorded in your plant.

Does it trace packaging as well as ingredients?

Yes. Packaging such as pouches, bottles, caps and labels can be received and issued by lot like any ingredient, so it appears in the trace.

Can it handle rework and blends?

Yes. Rework added to a batch and lots blended together are recorded as inputs, so the trace follows material through rework and blending.

Can I put a whole lot and everything made from it on hold?

Yes. Quality can hold a lot, a batch or all batches made from a lot. Held stock does not appear for picking until it is released.

Will this make us compliant with traceability rules?

Formezy keeps the traceability records that food safety standards and regulations ask for, and makes them fast to retrieve. Compliance also depends on your procedures, such as recording every issue and dispatch, and on the standards you follow.
